Claude Monet
Fans of Monet know that it is not just his Impressionist style that is instantly recognizable; his appreciation of nature as both inspiration and as a subject matter is just as widely known. In fact, many would find it difficult to think about Monet’s greatest works without instantly thinking of his garden-inspired series, which was painted in his famous “Monet’s Gardens,” pictured below.
Georgia O’Keefe
This list of famous artists who painted flowers would not be complete without mention of Georgia O’Keefe, who is best known for her paintings of flowers, with her Orange Poppies being one of the most recognizable works of American Modernism.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Bouquet of flowers, Vase of Roses, Bouquet of Chrysanthemums, Spring Bouquet… these are just some of the flower paintings accomplished by the famous Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. While he is more commonly associated with his paintings of people, it is clear through his portfolio that he appreciated the beauty of nature’s sweet-scented decorations.
Vincent Van Gogh
While Starry Night may be the first thing you think of in relation to this Post-Impressionist painter, Vincent Van Gogh appreciated the floral form so much so that he painted two separate series of Sunflower still life paintings appropriately titled, Sunflowers.
