Spring and summer sure are nice, but if you live in an area that’s lucky enough to experience the change in seasons, then you know just how wonderful fall is too! Between the transformation of the leaves, the cool, crisp air, and, of course, the transition to the holiday season, there are so many reasons why autumn is something to look forward to. How many can you name?

Below, we list 11 of our own.

1. Colors and decor

What other time of year do you know of that produces colors as beautiful as fall does? With the streets and sidewalks turning into a sea of oranges, yellows and reds, the scenery fall presents is just amazing. Getting a bit more specific, one of our favorite places to see the colors come together is in floral arrangements and fall plants! From mums to hydrangeas, roses and more, the mix of fall colors make for a beautiful arrangement! And then there’s the decor. In addition to the fall foliage, you can make your home pop with fall colors by decorating with some of the season’s finest — starting with a fall wreath! What have you done to your home so far?

2. Pumpkin everything

Whether it’s added to your breakfast, your coffee or your nighttime dessert, fall is all about pumpkin and pumpkin spice— one of our favorite flavors! Though you may be able to find recipes that produce this particular taste throughout the rest of the year, you won’t find it the way you do during the fall – it’s practically available at every store! The theme of pumpkin spice itself is used quite a bit too, such as in fall bouquets that can be used as autumn decor!

3. Sweater weather

“Sweater weather” is more than just the name of a song, it’s a way of life in the fall! There’s nothing better than cuddling up in an oversized sweater as temperatures start to drop (with a pumpkin spice beverage in your hand, we might add). Need we say more?

4. Fall fashion

Speaking of sweater weather, fall also brings the opportunity to get your feet into those new trendy boots you just bought and slip on a pair of leg warmers that match. Additionally, it’s also time to get all wrapped up in your favorite scarf! Last, but certainly not least, there’s also the nail polish — if you’ve been dying to wear “wicked,” the wait is over!

5. Football returns

Sunday football is back! While you may be busy cheering on your favorite baseball team as the playoffs draw near, we know just how much you’ve missed enjoying drinks, wings and other game-day snacks with friends and family — we sure have! And don’t forget about dessert; a fall gift basket filled with fruits, cookies and various autumn chocolates is the perfect way to end a fun-filled day.

6. Apple and pumpkin picking

While the beach is definitely a treat, it’s certainly nice to feel the breeze as you walk through rows and rows of apples and pumpkins that are just waiting to be taken home. Not to mention, it’s the perfect way to spend some time with family and friends! Although you don’t necessarily need an excuse to hang out with those you are close with, the need to go apple or pumpkin picking during the fall is definitely a great one!

7. Sweet scents

Aside from the tangible reasons fall is an awesome time of year, let’s not forget about the amazing scents of the season. From spiced pumpkin to apple cinnamon, apple cider and autumn wreath, we can’t think of any other season that smells as good as this one. Not to mention, the flowers that bloom (both indoors and outdoors) during this season are also some of the best smelling too!

8. Halloween and candy corn

Let’s face it – we could all use a good scare every now and then, and between all of the scary movies on TV and haunted houses that pop up around town, there are plenty of opportunities to get yours in during the fall! But even if you aren’t into getting spooked, Halloween is also awesome due to all of the delicious treats that wind up on stores’ shelves — candy corn, anyone? If you’ve seen the movie Elf, then you know that candy corn is one of the four main food groups, so be sure to pick up your share before it’s too late!

9. Delicious food

After you’ve indulged in your favorite Halloween sweets (you’re never too old to enjoy trick-or-treating), it’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving! And with that, as we all know, comes an insane amount of food to eat. Between the turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce alone, your tummy will be full for weeks!

10. An extra hour of sleep

Spring ahead, fall behind! If you’ve been dying for some extra shuteye, now’s the time when you can get it! And even though it’s only one extra hour, it’s certainly enough to rejuvenate you when you need it most. In case you weren’t already aware, this year we turn the clocks back on November 1st!

11. Fall holidays

From dressing up in fun costumes for Halloween (like our DIY Mother Nature costume or DIY Flower Pot Costume) to eating tons of delicious foods on Thanksgiving, fall holidays are some of our favorites! And let’s not forget all the shopping we can do on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (shopaholics, I’m looking at you).

Though this is only 11 reasons why fall is such a wonderful time of year, we could go on for hours — fall is just that awesome!
